EMERGENCY RESCUE, CALL: 360 704 8211
We are dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating injured seabirds at the Skyway Fishing Piers in Florida.
Skyway Team Bird Rescue Inc. saves the lives of hooked, fishing line entangled and endangered seabirds at fishing piers, rookeries and roosts, to advocate for safe and ethical rescue practices, to educate anglers and the public on how to properly release a hooked or entangled bird. We value working with anglers.
Skyway Team Bird Rescue is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) 99-3919124, dedicated to rescuing seabirds injured by fishing gear, educating the public, and empowering anglers with practical, bird-safe fishing knowledge.
We are not here to shut down piers—we are here to protect birds with anglers, not against them. We believe in a future where birds and anglers coexist peacefully, and we strive to make that vision a reality through education, advocacy, and hands-on rescue efforts.
We rescue entangled birds, transport them to vet care, and educate the community on how to prevent injuries in the first place.
Our educational programs teach safe hook removal and line handling techniques, ensuring that every fishing trip is both enjoyable and safe for our feathered friends. Together, we can create a harmonious environment where birds and anglers coexist peacefully.
Every week, caring fishermen and women call us to help entangled birds. We teach safe hook removal, line handling, and how to avoid injuries before they happen.
We wanted to show the Anglers how much we appreciate them. Many Anglers have taken the bird rescue classes mandatory on the pier, and have saved MANY birds! Others call us immediately when they need assistance.
We had fun spreading the cookie love!
Imagine the surprise the South Skyway Pier toll booth employee had when she saw this pelican make its way to the booth in a plastic bag.
Both on and under the pier, there is a constant need for trash removal. We do what we can, but we really need everyone to jump in and help with this ongoing problem.
Whenever Skyway Team Bird Rescue is on duty, we pick up loose lines and hooks left behind by anglers on the pier. But it's not just the pier that needs attention; under the bridge needs ongoing care and stewardship, and we organize cleanups.
Pelicans who are injured, entangled, and drifitng, try to find a resting place on the rocks under the pier. There is also a beloved cat colony wandering and hunting on the rocks. In addition are other seabirds. The garbage is a problem.
